When you prepare for an earthquake one of the things you will want do is find a safe place to go to in each room of your home. Don't forget to figure out a plan for other places you spend time in, such as your classroom at school, work setting etc. For example, look for a spot that is away from glass, such as windows. If you were in the dining room, slide under the table. Don't forget to hold on! If you don't have a hard surface to slide under, find an interior wall, away from anything big that can fall on you, kneel down, and cover your head. Once you have your plan in place, practice these things.
Some other things you should do to prepare your house is don't put shelves above your bed. If you do and an earthquake happened, the shelf may fall and the stuff on the shelf will fly and may hit you! Bolt bookcases to your walls and other tall furniture.
