An ice storm is freezing rain. Some people call ice storms "glaze events" or "silver thaw". I used to live in Indiana and there were a lot of ice storms. Ice storms are very beautiful but also very dangerous when you are walking or driving. There was an ice storm in North America in January 1961. It was a huge storm that broke the record of thickness at 8 inches! There was a time in the 1980's to the 1990's that ice storms were more common than blizzards!
