Now, let me begin by saying,
I am a wimp. And before I started robotics the previous fall,
I was pretty good at pretending natural disasters simply did not exist. So when I learned the topic was Nature's Fury, I was truly afraid!
However, it ended up being a great experience, because after so many years of ignoring the truth started by fear, I finally felt that I had taken control of the situation. And once all the initial fear I had had wore off, I started to actually enjoy learning about natural disasters with my team.
I realized natural disasters are fascinating. In fact, I now enjoy learning about all kinds of disasters.
Something I learned through all this:
''The best thing you could ever do for yourself in an emergency situation is to educate and prepare yourself before it happens.''
And please, don't be hard on yourself if you are afraid of learning about natural disasters, they are pretty intimidating and so surreal, its hard to imagine them actually happening in your own community.
I hope my story will help you get excited and ready to learn about the many different kind of disasters we will be talking about here at the blog!
